What should you think about before creating a logo? The first thing to start with is choosing the type of your logo.

1. LETTERMARKS

A lettermark ( or a monogram ) is a typography-based logo that's comprised of a few letters, usually a company's initials. Lettermarks are all about simplicity and uniqueness.

2. WORDMARKS

Similar to a lettermark, a wordmark or logotype is a font-based logo that focuses on a business name alone, but you won't find any symbols, graphic patterns, or emblems.

3. PICTORIAL MARKS

A pictorial mark logo ( or a brandmark ) is imagery reduced to its symbolistic meaning. A brandmark has to be really representative to create strong brand recognition.

4. ABSTRACT MARKS

An abstract mark is a specific type of pictorial logo. Instead of being a recognizable image like an apple or a bird, it's an abstract geometric form that represents the business.

5. MASCOTS

A mascot logo is a drawing of a person or a non-human entity that received human form or human attributes. This type of logo can create a friendly and positive feeling.

6. EMBLEMS

Emblems are the oldest type of logo design. Consists of front inside a symbol or an icon: think of seals, crests, stamps, prestigious school logos, or government agencies.

7. COMBINATION MARKS

This one is a mix of multiple different types of logo designs. If you can't decide on a kind of logo from the ones mentioned above, just combine or stack them on top of each other.
